Local Activities
There is plenty to do right on the doorstep, exploring the woods and playing on the river…sailing, kayaking, fishing & ferry trips. Or you could just drink coffee in the sun watching the tide come in and out. Truro (4 miles) and Falmouth (10 miles) are close by and the north coast beaches are only ½ an hour away.
Cycle the Bissoe trail (try out some of the more extreme mountain bike trails) from Devoran to Porthtowan, stop at the Blue Bar for lunch, and enjoy a well deserved early evening drink in the sun at The Old Quay Inn when you’re back.
Walk to The Roseland –Explore Trelissick Woods, from your front door. Head through a fern lined valley as the bright sunlight filters through ancient forest as you walk the old right of way used by bronze age man. Find your way to the King Harry Ferry & buy your seafood supper from the ferryman’s ice box on your return.
Catch a gilt headed Bream – Bring your fishing rod or borrow the resident one at Ruan Dinas! For us, an evening fishing is an excuse to snuggle up on the riverbank at dusk with a blanket & perhaps a whisky.
Ferry to Falmouth – Hail down the ferry from the Trelissick pier & head to lunch in Falmouth by boat.
Go for an ice cream at Gylly beach, Falmouth, walk round the corner and have another one at Swanpool beach!
A day out on the Roseland. Coffee in St Mawes, lunch at the Hidden Hut at Porthcurnick Beach and an afternoon on Pendower beach, afternoon tea at The Nare’s Head.
A trip to the north coast! Especially on a stormy day to see the waves. Drive to Chapel Porth and walk the coastal path to The Driftwood Arms at St Agnes for lunch.
Learn to Sail – Whatever your age we recommend you book a lesson with fabulous Tracey Boyne at Mylor Sailing School. Courses range from 2 hour 1:1 sessions to a 5 day youth sailor’s course. If sail and wind isn’t your thing you can book a powerboat lesson instead.
Explore the woodlined creeks of the River Fal – Hire a day boat or a sailing boat from Mylor Boat Hire, which you can keep on the tidal mooring at the bottom of your garden.
Wet & Wild Watersports – Windsurfing, Stand Up Paddleboarding, canoeing, kayaking, raft building, snorkelling & coasteering. All from Elemental at Swanpool Beach, Falmouth.
Canoe Expedition – Explore the River Fal by Canadian Canoe & learn the ancient art of bow fishing (yes just what it says on the tin – stalk your prey with silent paddling, raise your aim, breathe slowly & release your arrow).
Catch the King Harry Ferry to the Cookery School and Wood Fired Feast Sessions at the Philleigh Way.
Kernow Wake Park – Impress your friends or teenage children by organising a trip to this super cool wakeboarding centre.
SUP in a bag – arrange for a Stand Up Paddle lesson on your doorstep or book a tour of the
river with Amanda.
Catch a Sea Bass on the Blue Pointer - Whatever you catch you’ll have fun on the boat with Dan.
Fat Hen Forager - Return to nature & the source of your food. Chosen as one of the top ten best foraging courses in the UK by Countryfile.
